  12.  INTRODUCTION

  14.  Ok, well  I decided to make this file/series after damn near getting ripped
  15.  off for about  $100 dollars by a  couple of  mechanics.  See I  have  a '91
  16.  Volkswagen  GTI and it was time to get my plates renewed. Well in Colorado,
  17.  (where I live)  before you can  get your  plates renewed you have to get an
  18.  emissions test  done. Well  I took my car  down to my  local TuneMaster, or
  19.  some  slock garage like  that and got my test done.  I  passed  well within
  20.  Colorado Emissions Standards, and so I payed my money ($9 bucks) and was on 
  21.  my way right? Wrong. he hands me my Colorado Clean Air Ticket, and its says
  22.  'Failed. Vehicle failed initial sight  test.' So I'm like  'What  the  fuck
  23.  does this mean!?' And the guy tells me  that  before  they even GAVE me the
  24.  test the vehicle failed because the OXS (Oxygen Sensor) light was on.  Well 
  25.  as you can imagine I was  quite pissed because they charged me for a fuckin
  26.  emissions test which they new I was going to fail before they gave it to me.
  27.  So the guy tells me he can reset the switch for  $75 dollars and I was like
  28.  'Fuck off biiiiiiiittttch!' and I bailed.

  30.  Now  heres  something to keep in mind. I just took a fuckin' emissions test
  31.  which told me my car was operating within Colorado Emission Standards...yet
  32.  my  OXS  light  is on. Hmmmmm? So I take the car to the dealer and ask them
  33.  what the fuck is going on. Turns out the OXS light comes on every 30k miles
  34.  regardless of whether its sensing oxygen or not.  Why? So the fuckin DEALER
  35.  can charge me $89.99 to reset the fuckin' switch, thats why!!!

  37.  So  anyway,  I'm  like fuck all this shit and I start lookin for the stupid 
  38.  switch myself. Unfortunatley I couldn't find it. So after a couple of hours
  39.  of looking, I take my car to a mechanic-friend of my dad and he just laughs
  40.  and  says  'How much did they want?!?'  So he flips the hood open and shows
  41.  me the $100.00 dollar secret.

  44.  RESETTING THE SWITCH

  46.  Well,  apparently  in  early model VW Rabbits, the OXS switch was under the
  47.  hood and in plain sight, and so people would reset it all the time  with no
  48.  mechanic  assitance.  So  when  Volkswagen  came out with the Golf/Jetta II
  49.  models, they hid the switch.

  51.  THE SWITCH IS BEHIND, AND BENEATH THE ENGINE COOLANT CONATINER AT THE REAR,
  52.  RIGHT SECTION OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT (did every body hear that?)  Follow
  53.  the following directions (what?):

  55.         * NOTE *  Resetting the switch requires no tools, only a ball
  56.                   point pin.
  57.  
  58.         1. Lift the coolant tub up, and out of its holding brackets. 
  59.        
  60.         2. Look below where the coolant tub was and you should see a
  61.            bronze colored box. 
  62.  
  63.            On the face of box that faces toward the front end of the 
  64.            car, there will be two slightly recessed, white switches,
  65.            one above the other.

  67.         3. Use your pen to push the LOWER switch. 
  68.          
  69.            You should hear a click. If you did then your OXS switch is
  70.            reset and you just saved yourself $100 bucks.

  72.         * NOTE * These direction can be used for all Golf/Jetta IIs.
